Vesak festival

Vesak is the most important festival for Buddhist. It is held in the month of May every year. It marks three important events in the life of the Buddha. They are the Birth of Prince Siddhartha, Enlightenment of the Buddha and Parinibbana. As Buddhists we observe Sil on Vesak Poya Day. We also listen to sermons and other religious talks.
We decorate our houses with Vesak lanterns and other colourful decorations. We also illuminate our house with coloured bulbs and light many lamps on that day.
Pandals are erected at many public places. They display the various incidents in the life of the Buddha. We go on pilgrimages to sacred places. All these acts purify our our thoughts. Special religious programmes are also organised by Buddhist associations. Vesak lantern competitions and dansals are held on this day many places.

Let's live happily in peace and harmony on this important day and always.
